Welcome to northumbrian light, the home page of Pamela & Robin Down. The site includes examples from a growing collection of digital images which attempt to capture the essence of the Northumbrian landscape, England's last wilderness...."in wildness is the preservation of the World" (Thoreau).

The site started with the vague purpose of capturing Northumberland in pictures. It has since expanded to include a variety of disparate interests from canals to motor racing to 'bird cams' and golf - have a hunt around. The change to the home page picture each month and the construction of calendars forces me to go looking for pictures. The April picture is Rooks and Sheep, taken just south of Hadrian's Wall on Boxing Day (not unseasonal given that the end of March brought more snow to Northumberland)..
